Lily Cullen - Superhuman Empty Lily Cullen - Superhuman

    Name: Lily Cullen
    Age: 19
    Sex: Female

Description: A slender girl with long, dark hair that falls just beyond her shoulders, Lily is not the most striking of figures. Not unattractive, she dresses simply, mostly favouring jeans and printed tees for everyday life. Her eyes are a peculiar amethyst in colour, although Lily generally wears hazel coloured contact lenses to conceal this quirk of birth.

    History:
Imagine a world stripped of the illusions imposed upon it by the mind, a world where you saw what was really there. A world that wasn't afraid of showing you the monsters that lurked beneath your bed.

This is Lily Cullen's world. She was born with the gift, or perhaps the curse, of being able to see the spirits and spectres that linger in the mortal world. It took more than a few years for her to realise that she was the only one who could see the ghostly forms and black clad strangers who wandered the street, and those years were more than enough to earn her a reputation as something of a strange one in her birthplace of Edenbridge. It was perhaps this fact that led to her parents, kind and doting individuals, choosing to send her to boarding school.

Spending the next seven years miles from her family, and miles from anyone who knew anything of her tendency to talk to apparently imaginary creatures, Lily was granted a fresh start on life. She did her best to shut out the visions that stalked the streets, and focused her attention on her schoolwork and her friends. For a while, it seemed to work. For seven years, far from the busy cities and the masses of souls contained within, she was able to live a normal life, a good life.

And then... well, then she made a mistake. A trifle bored with the safe life she'd been offered at her school, and underestimating the number of spirits she might encounter in a more populous area, Lily chose not to return to serene little Edenbridge. Instead she headed for the bright lights of the big city, imagining that she might find life a little more interesting in London. To be fair, she wasn't wrong about that; London was a city with ten million living souls, and perhaps a tenth as many of the dearly departed. It was hardly possible to wander down a street without catching glimpse of a spirit, or of one of the black clad shepherds seeking to usher them into the world beyond.

Constantly distracted by these glimpses of the world beyond, Lily found it hard to settle into life in the big city. Her dreams of success, of a charmed life, faded into nothingness, dispelled by one disappointment after another. Eventually, she ended up taking a job in a little bar just outside Covent Gardens. It wasn't much, barely enough to cover her share of the rent for the tiny little apartment she shared with another of the girls who had graduated from her school, but it was enough. She was getting by.

And then, one night, things just seemed to go to hell. Forced to walk back to her apartment after forgetting her tube pass – a not uncommon occurrence – Lily attracted the attention of a group of drunken thugs. Fleeing their unwelcome advances, she stumbled into an alley, and immediately wished she hadn't; a creature, an angel encarmine, launched itself from the darkness, and her pursuers vanished in a shower of gore. She too might have quickly followed, but for the appearance of a man, a brave soul who threw himself at the creature, buying her time enough to stumble away.

It was only the next day that she realised that he too must have been able to see the denizens of the beyond, and that she might well have cast away her only chance of speaking with another as cursed as she.
